Hosts

Partner state Hesse with host city Frankfurt am Main

The state of Hesse and the city of Frankfurt am Main submitted a convincing bid to host this year’s Digital Summit. As one of the most important locations for the German financial and digital economy, Frankfurt has a strong data centre landscape and great research expertise. It thus provides an ideal environment for the 2024 Digital Summit and allows citizens to get close insights into the Federal Government’s summit meeting. This year’s Digital Summit is being organised by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

Theme

The Digital Summit’s theme ‘Digital Germany - Innovative. Sovereign. International

Digital innovations are shaping our society in many different ways. They are a key driver of prosperity and economic growth. A prerequisite for digital innovations and the resilience of our society is digital sovereignty, which is strengthened by a common international understanding of values. In the context of questions such as ‘In which areas can Germany be considered a digital pioneer’ and ‘Where does it need to catch up? Which digital innovations will occupy us in the future?’, the Federal Government will highlight the opportunities and potential of its digital policy and present ideas for solutions.

Approach

Approach: Dialogue forum with the Federal Government

The Federal Government’s Digital Summit sees itself as a forum for dialogue which enables participants from the political and business worlds, science and civil society to interact directly with the Federal Government. It allows them to gather lots of ideas and inspiration, and contribute to setting the course for digital policy issues of the future. At the same time, it affords them the opportunity to raise the visibility of their own concerns and issues. For all this, the Digital Summit offers the right mix of innovation, exclusivity and transparency, social relevance and personal networking.

The Digital Summit is organised into eight platforms that work on relevant topics, projects and exhibits and prepare them for presentation at the Digital Summit. The preparation and organisation of the Digital Summit is based on five guiding principles:

  • The Digital Summit provides a stage for the diversity of digital topics.
  • The Digital Summit promotes dialogue with the Federal Government.
  • The Digital Summit is interactive, international and inclusive.
  • The Digital Summit is based on the respective annual key topic.
  • The Digital Summit enables the integration of the city where it is held.
